Tanker Truck Driver Jobs

A tanker truck driving job will require the driver to haul commodities that can include: oil, gas, water, construction, chemical, industrial, military, dairy and more.

Some common responsibilities of a tanker truck driver are connect hoses to tank, open valves, start pumps to fill up tanks, read gauges/meters and record load quantity. Some goods that are being hauled may also require the driver to attach a ground wire to the truck.

To become a tanker driver, you must first complete a high school diploma or GED certificate. Many tanker drivers then enroll in a commercial driver’s license (CDL )training program or school to gain the knowledge and skills needed for this job. You must pass whatever tests are required to obtain the kind of commercial license that you need to operate the tanker truck you intend to drive. Hazardous materials and oversize loads often require additional training and endorsements.
