A student truck driver job is an entry-level position in which you can gain the skills and experience needed to become a truck driver while also earning money. A student driver has the opportunity to gain the experience needed to secure a job, and the trucking company is able to help new employees meet and pass all DOT standards.
On average, a Class A CDL program lasts about seven weeks. Class A programs tend to last longer than Class B programs, since a Class A license permits you to drive a greater variety of trucks and take on larger loads.
To gain employment as a truck driver you will need to:
- Obtain a CDL
- Attend a Truck Driving School
- Have Clean Driving Record & Solid Work History
- Be at Least 21 Years Old
- Pass a Drug & Alcohol Test
- Undergo a Physical
